The Community Health Worker Certificate of Achievement program at Santa Rosa Junior College in California is a 22-unit program that combines interactive course work and practical community experience. Students experience a variety of community health outreach strategies and techniques, including examining common disease and health problems, motivating health behavior change, preventing disease and injury, identifying and using community health resources, and working with a health team. An Associate’s Degree program is also available.

Hospital-based Training Program
The Sinai Asthma Education Training Institute (SAETI) was established in 2006 as a training hub for the Sinai Asthma Program. The goal of SAETI is to provide CHWs and other local and national health care professionals with the skills needed to assist children and adults with asthma to improve asthma control and lead healthier lifestyles. In addition, SAETI aims to increase asthma awareness by providing education to staff of community-based organizations.

Located in Minnesota, St. Catherine University offers a 9-month, 17-credit, Community Health Worker Certificate program that focuses on bridging the gap between cultures and health care systems while mentoring and empowering people to achieve their optimal level of wellness. Classes are available on evenings and weekends as well as online.

Two educational institutions have joined together in partnership with the Temple University Health System to develop a curriculum and offer effective training for CHWs. State Certification Board
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) provides certification and training programs for CHWs and instructors. The programs consist of more than 160 hours of continuing education training materials and distance learning certification courses. All programs are approved by DSHS.
